Our country is suffering from a serious drought and we, from home, can lend a helping hand, both to the planet and to our pockets.
The place of house where we spend most water is the bathroom, as is to be expected, but it is followed by the kitchen and, if you have it, the garden. Today we bring you different tips to save water in these different places in our home.
Saving water in the bathroom
As we have already said, the bathroom is the room in which we spend most water, because that is where we do our daily hygiene which can include everyday gestures as washing our hands after petting our dog, taking a shower after a long day's work or washing our teeth before we go to sleep. We present different advice to save water in the bathroom:
· Installing an embedded cistern: it is activated with a double-discharge pulser, which instead of downloading 10 liters of water each time we pull the cistern, discharge 3 liters.
· Take a shower instead of a bath: filling the bathtub can spend 80 liters, while showering is 8 liters per minute. Even so, it is advisable to close the tap while we get soaped, to speed up the time we stay under the shower and to install a system of reduced flow to save even more.
· Reducing toilet discharges: we often use useless discharges to, for example, get rid of a piece of paper, which is why we recommend reducing toilet discharges and even using the toilet several times before casting the cistern. It is very important not to use the toilet as a trash bin, under any circumstances.
· Use a glass to rinse us after brushing.
· To take advantage of the water falling from the shower while we wait for it to warm up: use a bucket to fill with the water that is wasted without using it, which can be used, for example, to water our plants or to rub.
Saving water in the kitchen
When we clean everything that has been used after cooking, we spend a lot of water, which is why we also have different tips for saving water in the kitchen:
· Don't wash by hand: if you can have a washing machine, use it in full load, which means to wait till fill the machine to get it up and running. This saves 40% of water from hand washing.
· Also, use the Eco program: to save 36% of water and a lot of energy. Despite it takes longer to finish, these programs spend less water and energy.
· Rate fruits and vegetables in a container instead of under the tap: this will allow us to use the fair water we need instead of wasting unused liters of water.
· Make pots and pans soak: they lose the anti-adherent in the washing machine, which is why it is common to rub them by hand, but putting them in soak after use will allow us to spend less water on rubbing them, because everything will be cleaned more easily.
Saving water in the garden
The garden is something that cannot be cared for or maintained without water, which is why we recommend:
· Betting on indigenous plants: this type of plant is used to the climate, so it will not require as much water or care.
· Watch for leaks: we need to review the state of our irrigation equipment, because leaks can waste a lot of water.
· Water the plants in the morning or night: this way we will prevent water from evaporating before being absorbed. In the summer, we recommend irrigating mainly at night.
· Covering the pool if it won't be used: in this way we prevent water from becoming dirty and evaporating, saving us from having to fill the lost water.
