What to do in case of flooding at home?
We never know when a flood may come upon us. During times when it rains the most, we are more prone to water entering our homes because we are not well insulated against this problem. Here we will see some tips on how we should act in the event of a flood at home.
1. Before attempting any action, make sure you and your family are safe.
2. If it is safe to do so, turn off the electricity and gas to avoid the risk of electric shock or gas leaks that could cause fires or explosions.
3. If the flooding is caused by a leak or burst pipe, try to stop the source of water by turning off the main water valve in the house.
4. If you have time and it is safe to do so, try moving valuable items, important documents and sentimental items to a higher, safer location.
5. Unplug all appliances and electrical appliances to avoid damage from short circuits.
6. If the flooding is minor and the water does not pose an immediate risk, you can begin removing standing water using a water pump, wet vacuum, or buckets.
7. After removing the water, open the windows and use fans to ventilate the area and speed up the drying process. You can also use towels, rags, and absorbent cloths to dry affected areas.
