How to avoid home theft during the vacation period
- The less people know it, the better. We are all excited about going on vacation and that's why we are announcing it to the closest and most trusted people, but we must avoid announcing it in unknown spaces or through social networks. Thieves are also Internet users!
- Have a good alarm. Nowadays there are highly advanced security systems that have security cameras and direct connection to a police station. Before leaving, check that it's enabled and in good conditions.
- Leave the blinds half way down. The windows and doors have to be closed, but it's better to don't low the blinds completely. In fact, the ideal thing would be to install a timer that will raise them and lower them regularly because there seems to be movement inside the house and mislead criminals.
- If you travel by car, do it early in the morning to avoid prying eyes of those who may be waiting for your departure.
- Trust a friend or neighbour to water the plants, pick up the mail and make sure thieves leave no brand in the house. Leave him your keys and ask him to check regularly that everything is in order. Many thieves put cotton on the lock or leave marks with plastic or with a marker and, if the mark isn't removed in a few days, they confirm your absence.
