Cohousing: To grow old in company
Residential complexes where cohousing is practiced are made up of private homes and a large number of common services and spaces, such as dining rooms, libraries, gyms, spas or game rooms. In these common areas assembly makes all decisions.
The majority of elders are afraid of ending in an asylum and are moving on the desire to live their second youth in the most active and autonomous way. That's why cohousing appeared as an alternative to senior citizens' residences. This system is gaining popularity because it allows the elderly to retain their independence, while living maturity with energy, far from loneliness and feeling part of a community.
Cohousing also aims to achieve efficient and sustainable spaces. The buildings are designed taking into account the real use that will be made of them and avoiding elements that will not be used by the people who will live there.
It's true that in Spain cohousing is directly related to the elderly, but every time this way of living is spreading to a wider range of the population.
What do you think of this type of residential complexes? Do you think they have a future?
